I had heard of the kit, but thought it was still prototype only and not available. I also thought the units they installed on a Civic blew up the engines?

I remember reading Vortech supercharger info somewhere before.. And someone also commented about the PS pump issue..

Isn't the Vortech supercharger a centrifugal (sp?) type of design? That means it has lags just like turbos? That translates to that JR has better low-end torque / response (well..theoretically).

But the overall benefit is greater on the Vortech unit (IMO) compared to JR. It has the ability for adapting a intercooler, has better efficiency with higher blower speed, and that BOV currently only available on turbo'd integras (call me ricey ).

But, if it is so similar to a turbo, why getting it but a turbo?????

PS. I have no intention and please don't turn this into a turbo vs SC debate. Thanks!

cpa: Well, they're promoting them to performance shops, so they probably aren't far from market.

aflack: That 500+hp capability is for the compressor only, not the kit or what the honda engine it's strapped onto will put out.

If you hop onto www.vortechsuperchargers.com you can check out on their homepage a Civic with the SC. I emailed them for info and got a quick response. So far they are working on a GS-R kit and they haven't started on a LS one yet The vortech system uses a air to water aftercooler from my brief emailings

Hybrid EG: It won't have lag like a turbo because it is driven off the crankshaft, not the exhaust. However, it will not have the low end torque of a JRSC because it is not a positive displacement compressor (i.e. It gets more efficient at higher speeds).

As far as blowing up engines, anybody can blow up anything with just a few human errors. The SCC staff seems quite adept at this.

Why is it that every time someone mentions the Vortech SC someone else always brings up the civic with the burned-up engine? Yes, they did burn up one of their own engines but, they did not blow it up. I believe it was SCC who ran the car most of a day wide open and found that the fuel set-up on it was not able to handle that type of use and it burned up. Now, how many engines have Honda engines have been blown by turbos, nitrous, or even the JRSC( Does tip in detonation ring any bells)? Quit tyring to knock a manufacturer for having a faulty prototype and support their efforts to create more competition in the market. At least Vortec does not seem to be using cutomers cars to find out what kind of adaptations and upgrades they need to make to their real world systems(BTM).
I just hope that their system does turn out to be a viable option of FI for our cars.

Alright, I probably shouldn't have said it and yes, engines get blown up for a lot of reasons, but it wasn't an intent to flame. Vortech obviously has experience in the industry. I agree that more options are better and I'm all for it. I guess it was a response to how I've heard it marketed, particularly the "500 hp capable" figure. The dealer I've talked to that is familiar with it is also skeptical about its expected availability given the way its been presented and the results of its tests so far. That doesn't mean it will not happen or that it will not be a good product.

I agree that the "500hp" portion of the brochure will likely mislead people who don't understand what they're saying.

Maybe they should've said, "This compressor can blow more air than your Honda engine could ever swallow!".
